It looks like Blizzard will be moving away from Heroes of the Storm, as seen from how they cancelled the game’s official esports structures, discontinuing Heroes Global Championship (HGC). The was announced via a blog post on 13 December 2018 from Blizzard’s new president Allen Brack and chief development officer Ray Gresko. Unfortunately, this leaves many Heroes of the Storm pros in the lurch.
As a result, HGC and Heroes of the Dorm will not return in 2019. Naturally, this angered a lot of people. Most notably, the Heroes of the Storm pros and teams who had been training for the upcoming competitions in 2019.
Here is a tweet from Heroes of the Storm pro Lauber:
Fuck you, honestly. Working 6 hard months with new fantastic teammates for this shit. Radio silence for weeks. I sent multiple email and all i got back was that they are working on finalizing the details.
And yet another from another pro Cris:
2 months ago I won the crucible in a super intense and heartbreaking series, then left in the cold water for 2 month just to get a big fucking fuck you
Cris’ frustration is understandable. The Crucible was a twice-a-year competition that allowed the best Open Division teams to win a spot in the HGC. This was held back in October, a mere 3 months before Blizzard’s announcement.
Understandably, there is a lot of frustration with Blizzard. Hopefully Blizzard changes their mind or else that’s a lot of people left in the lurch sia.
