Shadow of the Colossus (PS4) is a super beautiful remake of the iconic original released for PS2 in 2006. I only had the pleasure to watch the gameplay of the original, but this allows me to give a fresh perspective on the remake.
The story surrounds our young hero, Wander. He arrives at the Shrine of Worship with a young girl, Mono. Guided by the mysterious voice of a spiritual being that resides in the Shrine of Worship only known as, Dormin, Wander slays colossus after colossus in hopes to revive Mono. Siao eh! If I were him, how to believe a ghost sia?!
But anyways, the plot is quite linear and simple lah. You (as Wander) use your sword to shine the light beam to determine where the next colossus is, follow the direction, find the colossus and slay it. Sounds simple right? As much as it is linear, every colossus is a different puzzle more difficult than the last, where you use strategy to find out its weaknesses and how to slay it.
Check out my game play.
Looking at the game, WALAU it is ridiculously gorgeous. From the design of the landscape to the colossi, the detail and beauty of the game is simply pleasing. Just look at the screenshot above! Game mechanics wise, controls are pretty much straight forward. My biggest gripe would probably be the ch**b** horse, finicky like f**! Another gripe, it is made as an open-world but wah too linear already. Kill one colossus, the game transport you back to Shrine of Worship, then you ride the bloody horse to the next colossus, kill it and repeat. Nothing much to explore also.
Overall, the game looks and feels swee but should have been improved from the original. Therefore, I rate Shadow of the Colossus 3 out of 5 Bananas! If you enjoy beautifully designed environments and slight challenges, this game is for you!
