Back in 2010, Calin Mateias, 38, from Romania coordinated a series of distributed of denial of service (DDoS) attacks on the European serves of World of Warcraft.
According to the Department of Justice, Mateias went after WoW for revenge against other players over arguments that arose from “the division of loot and membership in raid teams”. Thousands of WoW players were unable to log into the game because of Mateias’ DDoS. See la, make trouble for everybody only.
Mateias was extradited from Romania to the United States. Mateias pladed guilty in February and charged accordingly. In addition to his jail sentence, Mateias has to pay $29,987 in restitution to Blizzard Entertainment.
