Okay, full disclosure ah. I am damn interested in playing Vampyr. Be a blood sucking monster? Swee la, sign me on. The game launches on 5th June on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and it can’t come sooner. To build up some hype, Focus Home Interactive has released a game-play video of Vampyr that lasts 55 minutes. Damn long eh, just lepak and enjoy only.
The game is taken from last week’s developer stream. In it, the developers discuss the game and answer questions directly from the community.
The game-play takes place roughly six hours into the story. It shows off several of the deep systems that make up Vampyr‘s citizens and district ecosystems. Players can choose to either kill or spare any or all of London’s citizens. However, killing citizens means being able to use their blood to evolve new powers. Typical morality system ah. But who cares, just kill and be powerful ah!
The protagonist of the game is Jonathan Reid, a doctor. Therefore, players can also choose to heal these same citizens by conducting examinations and crafting specific medicines. Curing illnesses improves the quality of life for each citizen and the district. At the same time, their blood also offers a larger, tastier boost in power. So basically like raising chicken like that. Make them nice and juicy before eating them hor?
The key to the game is balancing the overall health of citizens. Each of the four main districts have their own health status gauge. This is affected by the number of dead, sick and healthy citizens in the area. As the gauge drops, shop prices will increase and citizens get sick easily. If the status drops below critical, the entire district will be lost. That means that everything is permanently gone. Wah, mati liao.
However, it doesn’t mean game over yet. A player who loses all four districts can still complete the game. It just means that the ending will change to match their choices. Sounds like it’s just a bad ending lor. The endings got more variation than Mass Effect 3 can liao.
