Just yesterday, I wrote on the Fallout bobblehead who is being livestreamed by Bethesda. It looks like Bethesda has finally made their move and has released a teaser trailer regarding the next Fallout game, Fallout 76. Swee la. It’s time for more apocalyptic adventures.
Don’t assume that Fallout 76 would be a traditional single-player role-playing game like the other games in the Fallout series though. It turns out that Fallout 76 is in fact an online survival RPG that’s heavily inspired by games such as DayZ and Rust according to Kotaku’s sources. Okay la, don’t sound that bad hor?
These sources confirm that Fallout 76 is an experimental new entry in the Fallout series. It seems that the game was originally prototyped as a multiplayer version of Fallout 4 with the goal of envisioning what an online Fallout game might look like. Over time, Fallout 76 has evolved, it will feature quests, a story, base-building and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics. One of Kotaku’s sources cautioned that the gameplay is rapidly changing, like many online “service” games, but that is the core outline of the game. So it’s quite possible that these features might change before the game’s launch. Wah, is it time to build crazy forts with your friends in the wasteland? Sounds cool only sia.
The game’s name comes from the series’ Vault 76, which has been mentioned both in Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. According to the game’s lore, Vault 76 was meant to open 20 years after the nuclear war. Unlike Fallout 3 and 4, which take place 200 years after the war, Fallout 76 would feel very different as there would be a far less civilized setting compared to the previous games.

We’ll most likely see more of Fallout 76 during Bethesda’s E3 press conference in 10th June, 6.30 p.m PT (11th June, 9.30 a.m SGT).
