Two years ago, Nvidia launched its current generation of GeForce gaming GPUs. Now it seems like the next generation, possibly named GTX 1180, might be here in August.
Although Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang had said that the next GeForce GPUs would be “a long time from now“, recently signs seem to point towards next month being the launch of the GeForce GTX 1180.
Nvidia is currently sending invites for Gamescom on 21 August for a mysterious PC-related event. The invites follow a Lenovo product manager freely talking about Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 11 series during an E3 video. The Lenovo rep mentioned that “time to market with NVIDIA 11 Series up to an 1180 down the road” suggests that Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1180 might be on its way soon.
In addition, images of an alleged Nvidia engineering sample for the GeForce GTX 1180 leaked last week. Suay sia, all these leaks, but good for us hor? The card has a dozen of Micron’s GDDR6 memory modules installed, and no existing GPUs support this new memory yet.
Hopefully, if the GTX 1180 truly does launch next month, the price won’t be too ridiculous. Gamer have needs too right? Don’t crush my 4k gaming dreams leh.
