My first experience going to Resort World Sentosa’s Halloween Horror Nights 9 at Universal Studios Singapore and it was bloody awesome. If you have never been to such an event before, it is a must try especially if you are a Horror buff or would like a good scare.
Halloween Horror Nights 9 is on from 27th September to 31st October. Tickets are at SGD60 for Peak and SGD50 for non Peak days. Express Passes are at SGD . For me, the best buy would be getting the Express passes cos the queues for most of the haunted houses are damn long and it does take a while.
There are a total of 5 haunted houses, 2 scare zones and 2 shows.
Curse of the Naga
This is definitely the highlight and the grandest of the haunted houses. If you love Thai horror, you are gonna love this. Curse of the Naga was designed by none other than the masters of Thai horror, the directors of Shutter and 4bia. I have to say there were lots of intricate designs which looked really good yet scary. I was screaming like a little girl quite a number of times.
Hell Block 9
The entrance for Hell Block 9 looked damn cool. You got a guard on top shining his light at random people, shouting and hitting his baton hard to give a taste of what’s to come when you go inside Cell Block 9. I was not disappointed one single bit and got totally freaked out at the very end. Awesome.
Chalet hauntings
This is a little more localized. Just think of the good old days, when you “thorn” with your friends at East Coast Chalet and you remember the ghost stories about it. This haunted house hit me with a wave nostalgia and then waves of me shouting and getting scared out of my wits. I don’t want to go chalet anymore already. Hahaha. The whole messy look of the chalet was awesome and the scares for this were brilliant.
Spirit Dolls
This haunted house took my by surprise. I really thought that this wouldn’t be as scary of the rest of the houses but it was the scariest for me. Perhaps the dull exterior got me thinking, this would be boring but upon entering the house. All that notion of it being boring went away in mere seconds. In no time I was yet again screaming like a little girl and telling them to stop it.
Twisted Clown University
If you don’t like clowns, you are not gonna like this house very much. You probably might not like clowns anymore after coming out of Twisted Clown University. The logo reminded me of an old school game called Twisted Metal. It did give me quite a few scares and I loved the whole black and white part of the house. Damn trippy.
The most disappointing part of Halloween Horror Nights 9 was the “Death Fest”. Watching this excruciatingly boring set was painful. A so called metal band called Death Trap that plays death metal and then proceeds to sacrifice a girl to Satan is just so cliched and lame. If there was an actual band playing actual Death metal, at least I would have appreciated it but no. The band were doing a “Milli Vanilli”. It’s just lip syncing and pretending to play the guitars and drums. That was just sad lah. As a metalhead, it was really embarrassing to watch. Embarrassing to see the music you love, being made fun of by people who have no idea what the genre is about. The least they could do was to do some homework about the genre cos the whole show was all over the place.
The only show I missed cos of timing was the Skin and Bones show.
If you are planning to make the trip to check out, Halloween Horror Nights 9 at Universal Studios Singapore. Go and catch all the haunted houses cos they are worth the ticket price, just don’t bother with the “Death Fest”. Avoid that as you will probably be bored to death.
