Swee la, Nintendo announced two new Pokémon games coming to the Switch on 16th November. Titled, Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, the games take players back to the Kanto region to collect the original 151 Pokémon. The games look to feel very different from any Pokémon in the series before, bringing new features with it.
Tag-a-long Partner
Okay la, this one isn’t exactly new. Pokémon Yellow did allow you to have Pikachu follow you around. In a similar way, Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee will allow Pikachu and Eevee respectively to follow players around. However, they will be sitting on your character’s shoulder or head rather than just walking behind you. So much cuter hor?
Poké Ball Plus
Nintendo had also developed a new and unique controller to play the games with. The controller is shaped like a Poké Ball and is called the Poké Ball Plus. Like cool only lor, literally holding a Poké Ball is the dream.
Not only can players use the controller within the game, the Poké Ball Plus will allow players to “bring one of their Pokémon with them as they explore the real world”. From the trailer, it seems that shaking or touching the ball will cause the Pokémon inside to react with sound. Shiok sia, can bring your Pokémon around outside and show off to your friends.
Pokémon Capture Style
Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee introduces a new game-play style of capturing Pokémon. In previous Pokémon games, players select a Poké Ball and the character automatically throws it.
Both of the new games do away with that mechanic. Instead, it looks like Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee will be adopting a Pokémon Go-style of capturing Pokémon. Players will have to move their hand in a ball throwing action and aim at an expanding and contracting circle that hovers in front of a Pokémon in order to catch it. If you are a fan of the Pokémon Go-style of capturing Pokémon then you’ll like it. If you lazy like me then this part abit sian ah, need to keep moving your hand around.
Pokémon will also be displayed visibly on the map. Players will be able to choose which Pokémon they would want to battle and capture rather than meeting them in random encounters like the previous games. No more praying to RNGesus for that rare Pokémon liao.
Let’s Go Pikachu, Let’s Go Eevee and Pokémon Go looks to be cross compatible as players will be able to transfer any of the original 151 Pokémon across games via a bluetooth connection. Not bad hor, less grinding the better.
Co-op multiplayer
Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee will feature drop in-drop out co-op multiplayer. All players have to do is to take a second Joy Con, shake it and the second player will drop into the game. This takes playing Pokémon to the next level eh. Can sit next to your friend and catch Pokémon together sia.
New Pokémon
Last but not least. Nintendo has hinted that Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee will feature a brand new Pokémon that has never been seen before. Sadly there are no hints about what the new Pokémon may look like. But not bad already ah, got a unique Pokémon that only players of the game can catch.
