Just to let everyone know, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is my first game from the Assassin’s Creed franchise. I have never been a fan of the earlier games, mainly because I do not like playing stealth mode kinda games. I prefer going all out Rambo style. However, the stories for Assassin’s Creed have been interesting( the movie was shit though). What peaked my curiosity for AC: Odyssey was, that this was set in Ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian war between the Spartans and Greeks.

I had a wonderful opportunity to try out AC: Odyssey when we had a visit to Ubisoft Singapore. I managed to have a little fun playing one of the battles. It was then I knew, AC: Odyssey is definitely going to be my first game into the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Now at the start of the game, I had to choose between two characters, Alexios and Kassandra who are siblings. This is a first for the AC franchise. I chose Alexios who sounded Russian to me for some strange reason. Anyway at the start of the game, I got to play the mighty Leonidas which was insanely cool af. Even though he sounded a bit Russian. Oh well.
One thing about AC: Odyssey is that it has some breathtaking views of ancient Greece. It’s very obvious that a lot of details and research has been put into it. My personal favorite is the water technology used for the Aegen Sea. Absolutely beautiful and realistic. I also kind of enjoyed the dialogue decisions I had to make. I could either make Alexios, a cool cat or a real CB. Some of the dialogue decisions are whether you want to kill someone or let them go and some are for romance. But the trouble is the romance dialogues can sound something from an 80’s cheesy porn movie which was fine by me. It’s all up to me but of course certain decisions I make, will affect my gameplay and side missions as well.
With a game as large scale as this, there are bound to be some flaws here and there. One of them I noticed was sometimes the audio does go a little off sync here and there. It’s also not easy to rank up. I have to do quite a bit of side missions first then only can I go to the main mission to complete. Whatever current level I am, i have to rank up 4 times to go for the main mission. And to rank up that amount, I have to play quite a number of hours. It does get a little frustrating at times especially when I have just finished a main mission and the storyline has a cliffhanger. And for me to find out, I have to play damn long, rank up enough, just to get to the next main mission. By then, I was getting quite sian already so it does lessen the impact of the story.
Naval battles at Aegen Sea was fun. Ramming ships is something I enjoyed immensely. Arrows and javelins help to weaken the enemy ship as well. So that was really fun to do. One of my favorites are the large scale battle scenes where I am at my element. Go full on Rambo and hack and slash the shit out of enemy soldiers and commanders.
Overall, I have to say I did enjoy AC: Odyssey despite the minor hiccups here and there. I’m very sure Assassin’s Creed fans will love this game. And if you are a newbie like me and you enjoy spending time on a game (This is about 50 hours of gameplay at least), then go and pick up Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
