Project Resistance is a new Resident Evil asymmetrical survival horror multiplayer game from Capcom which pits 1 player against 4. Known as Mastermind vs Survivors. So far there has been no release date given for this game but we managed to try out the game at Tokyo Game Show.
So what is Project Resistance is all about?
Basically one player will be the Mastermind, Daniel Fabron. His mission is to kill all the survivors. He can place traps and summon zombies at particular places of the map where you feels is the best strategy to hurt the survivors by looking from the cams. The cameras are weaponized as well. You also can control the Tyrant, Mr X. That is one scary looking dude and if he is attacking you, best you run or hope you have bought enough green herbs to heal you after he beats your ass. it’s good to place the traps near doors or dark corridors so whenever unsuspecting survivors will just go past and trigger them, thus injuring them.
As for the survivors, you have 4 characters who have different abilities to help each other to get through the mission and the mission is to get the hell out of the map. As all the characters have different abilities, it is important that teamwork is important, if you want to survive Project Resistance. You can’t just Rambo out of this one. That is for sure. The four characters are Samuel Jordan, January Van Sant, Valerie Harmon and Tyrone Henry. Samuel and Tyrone are melee wielding characters. Samuel uses his fists. Tyrone uses a 2×4 which can be upgraded to a bat if you have enough umbrella credits. Valerie and January are gun wielding characters. Valerie can help to heal the team if all of them are injured. January can disable the weaponized cams and that is vital as it disables what the Mastermind can see. Besides beating the zombies, the survivors have to find pieces of the puzzles to complete so that you can open the door and escape.
Umbrella credits, ammo, herbs are scattered around the map. You can collect umbrella credits and use them at the start of a stage. You can buy herbs. There are two types of herbs. Green herbs to heal and blue herbs to cure for infection. You can buy ammo which would be useful for Valerie and January. Not so much for the guys of course. For those using melee weapons, best to buy repair so you can fix your 2×4 (plank) or buy better melee weapon like a steel baseball bat.
The game is fun if you are playing your friends and if you love the Resident Evil series or even if you are a fan of horror. There are moments that can scare you especially if the Mastermind is good at placing his traps and zombies. One of my grips about Project Resistance is the pace and movement is slow. Sometimes too slow. Still it is a fun game to play and it is damn hilarious when you see slowly one by one, your team mates are getting pummeled.
