When it comes to tactical First Person Shooter games, I immediately think of games like CS:GO, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and so on. What Valorant did to differentiate themselves from these games is to take it to another route. The route they took is not bad but it isn’t good either. So here’e my take on Valorant.
Check out my gameplay video here.
In Varlorant, you will team up with a party of 5 players and the objective is to beat your opponents by 13 rounds in order to win the game. And the way to win is to purchase weapons and skills (yes you need to purchase your skills) instead of grenades.
Bear in mind, Valorant is not really a fast-paced shooter if we’re comparing with others FPS titles, and by the way every footstep counts. If you miss one of the blind spots, boom! you’re dead. Enemies do camp on a blind sight and I’m not ashamed to say I’m one of them as you can see from the video.
You can choose your character from the 11 heroes. Each hero has their own set of skills. From blinding enemies with flash to blinding the team’s sight and also blinding WITH DOT (poison skills).
There are also instances where heroes can blind your mini maps temporarily, so better tread your path carefully. On top of that, we have (Brimstone) who can cast multiple smokescreens on the map to block the opponent’s vision.
What really makes Valorant more dynamic is the vast amount of skills from each heroes, it makes you strategize your team carefully to win the game. Plus, It’s always best to have a healer (Sage). Not only can she heal your teammates but she’s also able to resurrect one of your team mates through her ultimate.
Not forgetting all the offensive tactical move sets from (Breach) that can really push the offense to another level. Same goes for (Raze) as she have two types of grenades and also a Boom bot that chases enemies when activated.
We have agile characters like (Jett) who can leap up and confuses enemies while finishing them off with her daggers. There’s also a hero that is really good at spying enemies (Cypher) who constantly interrupts enemies with tripwires that not only detects the opponent’s location, but slows them down as well. Speaking of revealing enemies location, (Sova) does an equally similar job like Cypher but by shooting his Recon bolts to reveal enemies nearby.
Last but not least, Reyna, the new hero that was introduced lately is quite over powered. Every kills she inflicts, she gets to absorb the enemies soul orb to heal herself and with her ultimate activate, she’ll go on an overload, doubling her fire rate and skills.
All in all, I’d sum up Valorant as a very slow-paced tactical shooter minus the grenade and swap it with heroes skills to amplify that portion of the game. The gameplay is slow for a reason, it’s a tactical game, WHERE CAMPING IS LEGAL! and I’d say the more tactical part of it comes from strategically finding where your opponents are, and whoop some ass! So if you are the sort of player who loves a good tactical slow paced FPS game, go get Valorant now!
