Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist review by Zeon
This game is a straight up retro homage to the best of the arcade, side scrolling beat ’em up classics from the past. Everything just screams retro from the 16 bit style animation, graphics and music. You play as Xiaomei trying to get back your sister Xiaoyin from the evil teachings of the Dark Dragon, from the help of your master.
Complete each stage with their own particular boss fight. It might seem easy at first, but you will definitely get caught off guard dying countless of times just like how an arcade side scrolling should be. With each stage you go through several pillars of difficulties and you will face a boss fight. Once you finished 5 stages of Xiaomei, you get to see the other side of the story which is Xiaoyin.
There are a lot of hidden content waiting to be unlocked as you fight your way through each stage. It just puts a smile on my face being able to revisit how an old retro game should be played in modern hardware console.
Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist is a 16-bit kung fu action game that pays homage to retro kung fu games from the 80s and 90s. You play as kung fu heroine Xiaomei, who embarks on a journey to save her elder sister, Xiaoyin, from the evil influence of the Dark Dragon.
Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist is out now on the Nintendo Switch.
