Who’s that jumping out of the sky?! It is not Rey Mysterio, but a release from Igloosoft for their newest open-world, sci-fi offering Farworld Pioneers! Alongside fellow publishers tinyBuild and running on the Unity game engine, crash and land in unfamiliar terrain as your lonely planet awaits… along with up to 32 friends in multi-player mode. How did we come to this?
Before we go on a journey through space and time into present circumstances, let us rewind back a few steps. Set in distinctive late-90s graphics with prompts that a certain demographic will remember (DDOS attack? It’s been a while since you appeared on our CRT monitors), Farworld Pioneers sees the protagonist and your companion Buddy emerging from the escape pod, greeted by mostly barren land with some trees. While nothing much is known about this alien ground, all investigation is put aside as survival becomes top priority. Through a simple tutorial playthrough, you learn basic skills such as gathering resources, creating buildings as well as tapping on Buddy’s help when need be.
As you venture beyond Ground Zero though, there is more than just Buddy for company. Meet other survivors along the way during Farworld Pioneers, each carrying their own set of skills and possibly useful for recruiting. After all, what is a mission to unexplored lands without Man’s need for planting their flag? Create colonies, manage your outerworld empire and potentially return home at some point.
