Over the last week, the Overwatch community has been excited as it seemed that a new hero would be joining the roster. Just last night, the Overwatch development team finally revealed Overwatch‘s newest hero. A hamster named Hammond. That’s right. A hamster. Oh, and the hamster is in a mech that he built for himself.
According to Jeff Kaplan, Hammond’s hero name is Wrecking Ball and is one of the animals that had been experimented on inside the Lunar Colony Moon Base. Just like Winston. Unlike Winston who crash landed at Watchpoint: Girbraltar, Hammond crash landed on the outskirts of Junkertown where he repurposed his escape pod into the rolling mech of death that you see today. Taking part in the mech battle arena of the Scrapyard, Hammond managed to earn enough money to upgrade his mech enough to venture out of the Junker-controlled Outback. Hammond is now free to travel and explore the world. Is he evil? Many not ah, but personally, an evil hamster joining the game is the best thing that could ever happen.
Classified as a tank hero, Hammond looks to be a high mobility disruptive hero meant to throw himself into the fray against the enemy team. Here are the list of his new abilities;
Quad Cannons
Two set of twin machine guns that shred enemies This is also Hammond’s primary fire.
Roll
This ability allows Hammond to withdraw the mech’s robotic limbs and transforms it into a ball with increased movement speed. Beep beep.
Grappling Claw
A short range ability that allows Hammond to grip the environment. It allows him to swing across terrain gaps or around corneres to smash into enemies. Grappling Claw also allows Hammond to reach top speed and ram into foes, dealing damage and knocking them back.
Minefield
Hammond’s ultimate is called ‘Minefield’. It allows him to fling mines onto the ground that deal a considerable amount of damage to enemies that trigger them.
Adaptive Shield
Generates more health based on the number of enemies nearby. This helps Hammond survive while rolling into the fights and to provide endurance when he needs to escape.
Piledriver
While flying through the air, Piledriver allows Hammond to slam down from the air and knock his enemies off their feet.
All in all, Hammond looks like a fun hero to try out. I’m glad there’s a new tank hero to try out. It’s time to tackle the enemy backline and make the enemy healers cry sia. For more detailed information on Hammond, check out the official Overwatch website.
