Detroit: Become Human‘s demo was recently released. Swee, I always wanted to be an android. Obedient to my human overlords, listening to everything they say. Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir. After going through NS, this should be a piece of cake.
Detroit: Become Human‘s demo only allows you to play a small event in the game. Specifically, the scene shown in the Detroit: Become Human trailer (E3 2016). Okay la, better than nothing.
You are Conner. Serial number: RK800. The small light blue glowing circle on Connor’s head is a constant reminder that you are not human. And in case you didn’t realize that Connor was an android, the game was nice enough to highlight that reality to you.
“You can’t do this. Why aren’t you sending a real person? Keep that thing away from her!” – a very distraught mother.
The demo is quick to set up the premise of the entire game. Tensions are rising between Androids and Humans. Here you are, as a negotiator, right smack in the middle of the fray. Got so suay or not?
Controls
As you wander around the crime scene, you pick up information that will help with the negotiation further into the demo. Interaction simple one. A simple spin of the thumb-stick or swipe of the touch-pad orders Connor to unlock a touchscreen or examine a corpse. Button commands are large enough so that players won’t have to squint to read them but not too big to the point where the button commands block the screen. Must take care of our eyesight hor?
During the negotiation phase, got a few choices of reactions to choose from. Accompanied with a bar that acts as a timer for your choice, Detroit: Become Human puts the pressure on you as you attempt to save the hostage. Make too many wrong choices and hostage mati. No go sial.
Music
The music of the scene is simple, with quick beats to reflect the urgency of the situation. Despite its simple nature, the music does its job. Turn you into ganjiong spider. Should I should leave the investigation, or stay to unlock another clue at the risk of the hostage’s life?
Visuals
The visuals are stunning, from the messy living room to the blood splatters across the windows to the glimmering lights of the futuristic city. Heck, even the water from the pool looks good. Macam can feel the water spray only.
Replay Value
Heng sia, even if you reach an ending that you weren’t expecting, the demo provides you with an option of retrying the demo to unlock the other endings available. The entire span of choices available is neatly shown with a flowchart that you can zoom in and navigate. Don’t scared lose, just whack the game only. Hostage mati also can try again!
