“I might need to smoke some weed before playing this game” were the very words that came out of my mouth when Subash sent me on this rather surrealistic mission to do this review (for legal purposes, I did not smoke a joint). Yes, you have heard of the usual simulator game for planes, surgery and everyday tasks. But at some point, have you ever wondered what it feels like to be a deer? Well, ponder on the grass no more! Brought to you by Gibier Games, DEEEER Simulator: Your Average Everyday Deer Game is anything but an educational game for kids.
Starting off life as your typical human on the street, one heroic deed causes a body swap after hanging onto deer life. But it is not all doom and gloom though, as the story progresses while you navigate through city life while adapting to these new hooves. Much to your surprise though, there are other anthropomorphic beings amongst humans in this concrete jungle with their own purpose. From sheep working as policemen, a literal cow blimp to (wait for it) massive marsupials shooting laser beams, this is survival of the fittest and those sentient humans have no control over this madness.
All except a particular young buck, who is ready to endeer itself as the main stag of this delightfully unscripted game. While DEEEER Simulator will not be getting awards for intricate storylines or cinematic graphics anytime soon, fans of the gaming equivalent of B-movies are in for a treat! Forget tactics, it is full mayhem with your virtual spirit animal as you headbutt humans in the groin, attach handguns for added firepower and hijack vehicles for a joyride towards crash collison. Need to stick your neck out against behemoths? Just do it, literally. Tired of being confined in one area? Make a dash across other islands and discover hidden surprises in store. Think early Grand Theft Auto, but eschewing biological constraints. Do not worry about the control configuration either, it is just like second nature. You could choose that other option of peacefully co-existing with other animals but I don’t want peace, I want problems always.
While my witty deer puns have come to an end, your interest in DEEEER Simulator should be anything but. While not recommended as an interactive educational tool to learn about animals, it is certainly one that delivers some chuckles while reminiscing about those discount bin games and taking a blind gamble.
