Power Chord Review by Roos Heilig
Plug in your amps, hit your sticks and do a mic test, Power Chord is ready to rock and roll all night, and party every day! Developed and published by the backstage crew from Big Blue Bubble while powered by Unity, this turn-based strategy game requires you to lay down the right cards against a revolving door of monstrous opponents. Unfortunately, this is not your usual “ask a punk” solution to navigate through every level but rather, having reliable deck building skills and of course, bandmates that can deliver onstage.
It is Battle of the Bands with a twist, where you face off against various musical ghouls who are not content with just stealing the limelight, but also putting an end to your musical career literally. Much to their dismay, you are not just another motley crue of wannabes, for the demon gangs of Helmoth are in for a rude awakening. Reopen that scratch between worlds and send them back to music purgatory (is there a fate even worse than being the opening band?) by assembling your very own musical Space Jam of defenders.
Just like every band, recruiting members is a gradual process with specific roles needed to be filled. In Power Chord, you will go through a few rehearsals to receive a vocalist, guitarist, bassist and drummer while serving as in-game tutorial before hitting the road proper. Upon completion of every round, pick a power-up card of your choice and add variety into the playing deck subsequently. It helps if you understand the abilities of every member and use that knowledge into your card deck.
Ready to hit the road and visit all of the dive bars? Then grab that pick of destiny and deliver a power chord to signal your arrival! Just remember to pick up an additional boost or two during your pitstops, because it will be a long tour ahead. Download Power Chord (legally of course) on Steam, with updates and new characters in the pipeline. One last song? They are just getting started!
