You read that right folks. We have confirmed a new entrant in the arena of gaming smartphones from ASUS. They’re naming it the ROG Phone and wah, i can tell you, it is one heck of a handsome phone.
The ROG family of products are known in the market for its gaming pedigree and the ROG Phone is no exception.
In that regard, the ROG Phone is anything but a shrinking violet. Judging from how mobile gaming has progressed to games that require accurate realtime responses (i.e. FPS like Fortnite, PUBG and MOBAs like AOV, Mobile Legends, etc.), it stands to reason that better hardware will give players a greater competitive edge.
Bio-ing the Chio-nessssss
The ROG Phone is a 6-inch smartphone with a 90Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time AMOLED display, powered by the world’s fastest speed-binned 2.96GHz octa-core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 845 Mobile Platform with gaming-optimized Qualcomm® Adreno™ 630 GPU.
That means it has enough power to run those ultra chio graphics that those korean mobile MMOs like to use. Considering that the average smartphone processing speed benchmarked is about 2.4 – 2.6GHz, the ROG Phone is really fast. Really really no horse run lor.
All of that is packaged in this sleek black form-factor with smoked glass. I was pleasantly suprised at how classy the ROG Phone looks. I was kind of expecting some tacky obiang red stripes and ziam ziam sharp sharp angles and stuff. Instead, what you have is something that wouldn’t look out of place in a business meeting. I love the visual effect of the rose gold accents on the black surface of the phone (kind of reminiscent of Vertu phones). The rounded profiles gives the phone a very polished look.
With great power comes… great cooling requirements
If you ask any person, who games on their smartphone for any extended period of time, what would be some of their complaints. Chances are they’ll respond something along the lines of “wah lau dunno why my phone always seebei hot.” So ASUS put a vapor-chamber cooling system in the ROG Phone.
An actual cooling system. In a phone. Why? because using the chassis as a heatsink is too mainstream obviously.
That’s why the ROG Phone is the first phone, in the entire world, at this point in time, that has a vapour-chamber cooling system. Oh and if you need more cooling, there’s a detachable AeroActive Cooler that will be made available separately for an extra cooling boost. Say it with me okay? MOAR COOOOLINGGG.
Captain, we’re approaching port… where shall we dock?
The ultra-comfortable design of ROG Phone includes unique side-mounted ports, and the enhanced, ultra-responsive game controls that are a working combination of two programmable ultrasonic AirTriggers and an advanced force-feedback haptics system.
There are also a slew of unique expansion accessories that further enhances the ROG Phone gaming experience.
Such as:
- the very cool but optional TwinView Dock for dual-screen handheld mode. I’m excited just thinking about the possibilities that developers can have for something like this.
- the Mobile Desktop Dock for desktop-style gaming. So that i don’t need to deal with mobile emulators just because i want to stare at my waifus in greater resolution.
- the Gamevice controller with WiGig Dock using 60GHz Wi-Fi for big-screen gaming. Bigger screen, bigger waifus yo.
- Other ROG Phone innovations include ASUS Aura RGB lighting and Aura Sync support, plus ASUS HyperCharge direct-charge technology for faster, safer and cooler battery charging.
All this for the wonderful low low price of…
