Finally lah, we got our chance to play Mortal Kombat 11 and it did not disappoint I always felt that Mortal Kombat X was the best and it was going to be hard to beat but NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have proven me wrong yet again. Guys, Mortal Kombat 11 is f**king awesome and it kicks some serious ass!
Check out our gameplay review of Mortal Kombat 11 here!
Mortal Kombat 11 is pretty much what happens after Mortal Kombat X and introduces a time bending character that brings together classic characters from different eras and some old school characters together. So you got Liu kang and Dark Liu kang, Raiden and evil Raiden, Young obnoxious Johnny Cage and slightly less obnoxious but older Johnny Cage. Old school characters like Kano and NOOB freaking SAIBOT also returns( much to my excitement). So its pretty cool you have all these characters new and old to try out and play them. Kotal Khan is one new character I did enjoy using except for his name. I keep calling him Kottai Kahn.
There is also something new which is the Custom Character Variation System which gives a lot of customizing options for you and I love customizing my character and its does feel a bit more personalized.
I really enjoyed the story mode even though there are more cinematic cut scenes than fights. To me it is a good break from playing PvP or the towers and the story does not disappoint. So your new bad guy is Kronika who can bend time and all which is cool cos whenever she bends time, you will get classic characters coming in and that is bloody nostalgic. The interactions are classic especially when you have old and young versions of the characters meeting and talking to each other. One of my fav is of course Johnny Cage. The only downer in the story mode for me was the horrible voice acting of Rhonda Rousey as Sonya Blade. It was emotionless and she sounded like she just woke up from a nap. Chialat lah.
The new characters featured are pretty cool as well. Like Erron Black, D’Vorah, Geras, Cetrion and the Kollector. I really love the designs for D’Vorah and the Kollector. Something about them creeps me out and their fatalities will prove it.
The “Fatal Blows” take over Mortal Kombat X’s X- Ray. This can be used only once per match and when your health is near death. Activate it and watch how gruesome, some of the fatal blows are. Confirm you are bound to groan, cause I sure as hell did to some of them. Hahahaha.
If you are new to Mortal Kombat, fret not, the fighting system, special moves, and combo can be a little intimidating but the learning curve is easy with the tutorials. Pause and learn baby! Of course if you don’t really care about all that and want to dive straight to see blood spilled, Mortal Kombat 11 can certainly be just as entertaining.
Also there is the return of Klassic Towers, which is basically a more straightforward single-player mode where you fight a series of opponents before eventually facing big boss Kronika. The more harder towers are the Towers Of Time. A time limited tower which has interesting things that can affect the playing field, fighters, and the game mechanics.
All in all, Mortal Kombat 11 is a thoroughly enjoyable game to be played with friends and just by yourself. It’s definitely one of my favourite games for 2019.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One PC and Nintendo Switch.
