You know you are playing a Far Cry game when within 30 mins, you get killed by animals more than humans. I have been killed by a cougar, a f**king huge bear( I screamed for that one) and turkeys. yup, freaking psychotic turkeys. I had my “What The F**k just happened?” look on and I have been having this look since Far Cry 3 and 4. And I absolutely love it. Far Cry has been one of those games where its zaniness is one of the main reasons why everyone loves playing them. Kudos to Ubisoft lah. Got to give it to them for this.
Far Cry 5 has been a long anticipated game for me cause I really enjoyed playing Far Cry 4. Pagan Min is definitely one of the best video game villains, I have come across. The fella is evil, doesn’t give a f**k, an absolute cheebye and ridiculously funny. I love Pagan Min lah. I knew it was going to be very hard for Ubisoft to top off Far Cry 4 but somehow they managed to do it and I dont think alot of games can pull it off. Nowadays, I can’t really play games for very long. At most 3-4 hours cause it’s the age lah, I’m telling you. But for Far Cry 5 ah, I have been playing more than 6 hours. I didn’t get bored, I didn’t get tired and I was hooked all the way. And that to me, is very surprising.
The graphics for Far Cry 5 is once again damn power. Topnotch stuff. The story line is also not bad. you got this mad fella called Joseph Seed and his family also equally mad. They are all Jesus crazy but in a doomsday cult sort of way. Somehow Joseph Seed reminds me of the wrestler CM Punk. I’m not sure if it’s the beard or the glasses but the fella looks like a heel version of CM Punk. Ok lah he’s not that bad but Joseph Seed ain’t no Pagan Min lah. Seed is quite a forgettable bad guy actually, yet it’s still an amazing game to play despite that.
There have been quite a number of significant changes for Far Cry 5 but the cool thing is despite the changes be it good or bad, Ubisoft made sure that Far Cry 5 is still pretty much the same style as the other Far Cry games have been.
One of them is the removal of the mini map. I always needed the mini map cause I suck ass in directions and I constantly need to see where I am going. It was a little awkward at first but eventually I got used to it. The removal of the mini map does help that it doesn’t block me from seeing those small f**king animals that are trying to kill me. There I am trying to snipe some guards of the post and suddenly I can hear a turkey gobble and I get slashed by freaking turkeys, I panic. Start emptying my ammo on those buggers. The guards sound the alarm. Everything goes haywire. But before the guards could come and kill me, I’m already dead by turkeys. Cue in my “WTF” look. Death by turkeys lah sial. Hahahahaha.
Planes. Wah this one damn shiok. Rarely I can fly planes in games, I usually crash and burn within seconds. but the planes in Far Cry 5 are a breeze to fly lah even though I crashed the first plane by accidentally reversing it to a post or something. I just got confused with the accelerate and decelerate buttons. The trick is to not use right direction(camera) button when you kanchiong cause that’s when it usually goes downhill.
Open world and missions. It’s really really huge and this time it’s in America. Well, a fictional town in Montana actually so got that red neck southern twang vibe to it. It was very hard for me to go from point A to Point B without deviating to do something. Lucky got fast travel which is good for those who don’t want to waste time and get to the missions straight away. The missions also now damn shiok and you don’t have to do it in order. There are side missions, story missions, prepper stashs and all. You can choose them at any time to complete and you are not restricted to one part of the map. Complete it then go to another. No, not anymore. you really can go whereever the f**k you want and that is something very different from the rest of the Far Cry franchise. Here’s a tip. Go and get as many Prepper stashes first. Those missions get you 3 perk points each, enough ammo and cash for you to not buy ammo from the store.
Guns for Hire. Now this is something different. You can get some of the NPCs to join you and chiong into a mission. Different NPCs have different things that they are good at. Some are good for explosions and some are good for guns. My favourite is a dog called Boomer. The fella can kill a bad guy and bring to you his weapon some more. This is good especially when you are low on ammo. Later on, you will a cougar called Peaches and a bear called Cheeseburger. All three Fangs for Hire have different abilities. It’s good to get these guys on your side fast. Also when you die, your guns for hire can revive you as well. It’s also good to rotate your Specialists as well. You just need to know which one is best suited for that particular mission.
No more Radio Posts. This is a welcome change. Last time, you must conquer the radio post and then only can you proceed to other parts of the map. No need for that anymore.
Cult Outposts. These are the pretty much the same as previous Far Cry games. You get Resistance points and more by conquering them. Quick tip. The most important thing you need here is your binoculars. Using them can spot your enemies so you can see them where they are going and all. I like to get to a higher ground and use my sniper rifle equipped with a silencer to disable the alarms off first. Then one by one I slowly pick my enemies off. Conquering an outpost without the alarms going of gets you a reward. It’s also good to rescue hostages while you are along the way cause for an outpost you get 400 RP, a hostage liberated gets you 50 RP.
Perk Points. These are essential. the more you get Perk Points, you can unlock lots of perks and gadgets like repair tool, move faster while you crouch, unlocking safes and many more. That’s why you should do as many Prepper Stashes and side missions as you can. Also, once in a while check on your challenge system. Sometimes when you reach a number of kills on a particular weapon, they give you Perk Points as well.
There will be moments in the game where you will be marked/blessed/hunted where you will meet the other Seed family members. You can’t really do anything to escape from it. Just go with the flow. Eventually you will escape from their clutches.
All in all, Ubisoft’s Far Cry 5 has been an absolute delight to play. I haven’t gotten bored of it one bit. I’m very sure, anyone who intends to get this game, will get their money and time’s worth.
