Re:Legend Review – Roos Heiling
Get ready to be washed ashore (literally) into the role-playing realm of Ethia and with your customised character, starting a new adventure altogether through Re:Legend, brought to you by 505 Games and available on various gaming platforms.
Re:Legend begins with your protagonist having no recollection of the incident that led to being drifted away at sea and ending up in a quaint charming village called Vokka Town. After being rescued by a talking penguin called Papa Pia (who in case, needs reminding, is really good at fishing) and recovering from unconsciousness, our adventurer begins a new lease of life while figuring out those lost memories. As with the foundations of every RPG game, nothing is fast-tracked and Re:Legend does a commendable job in coming up with gradual tasks for the protagonist to carry out as their journey progresses. Some of these missions include visiting important figures in Vokka Town, basic skills such as farming and fishing (guess who appears in that one?) as well as a fair bit of swordsmanship. Yes, it is not just all work and no play as our protagonist has to fend off threats while learning to care for a certain “Magnus”.
New to the RPG experience and needing time in figuring out controls? If you are a novice to this genre, Re:legend has done a great job of simplifying them while ensuring accessibility to the in-game map while navigating through Vokka Town. Unsure what was picked up or whether you have the required tools? Simply look into ‘Inventory’ and be equipped with the necessary items in every mission. Note that some of these require coins which can be earned through your tasks. It is also recommended that said coins are to be earned first before venturing into subsequent missions while starting this game, as some of your Inventory items need to be purchased and the last thing you want is Papa Pia to catch you attempting a quick getaway because of some missing fishing rod (I learned it the hard way).
