One more week to go to GameStart 2018 and we are excited af! GameStart 2018 will begin on 13th-14th October at Suntec Convention Centre. There are quite a number of things to look forward to sia! Got special guests lah, exhibitors lah, tabletop games lah, competitions lah, wrestler lah and many more! Yea! you read it right. Wrestler. None other than NJPW heavyweight legend, Kenny Omega! Suplex me now!
So we attended the GameStart media conference recently and GameStart founder Elicia Lee gave us a little insight of what to expect from this year’s GameStart which is on its 5th year by the way ah. Don’t play play! Mad respect to Elicia for that.
Special guests for this year’s GamneStart, you will have Motohiro Okubo, who is the producer of much anticipated old school game Soul Calibur VI on the 13th October. He will be meeting fans and sharing more about Soul Calibur VI which releases a week after the event. So if you are a Soul Calbur fan, this is a good time to find out more about the game.
For those who are into this hugely popular Capcom game, Monster Hunter: World, you got a chance to meet and listen to Kaname Fujioka who is the Executive Director/Art Director and the Director, Yuya Tokuda on 14th October.
New Japan Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, Kenny Omega is not just a wrestler, he is quite the gamer as well. Kenny will hold a meet and greet session with fans on 13th October and he will also be a commentator at SEA Major 2018 as well.
And if Mei from Overwatch is one of your favorite characters, there is a meet and greet with Elise Zhang who is the voice actress for Mei. Happening!
There will also be masterclasses conducted by Jacqueline Jocson and Carlo Arellano.
Character Design: Introduction to Visual Storytelling will be conducted by Jacqueline Jocson. This will be on 10th October 10 am-5 pm at The Treetop, *SCAPE Level 5. For more info on Jacqueline, click here. Archetypes in Advanced Character Design will be conducted by Carlo Arellano. This will be on 12th October 10 am–5 pm at The Treetop, *SCAPE Level 5. GameStart has already released the list of exhibitors and there are quite a number of them. There were some present at the media conference which we had first peek and boy were they interesting. We had a preview for Lego DC Villains which looked incredibly fun to play. If you pre order the game at the show, you will get a LEGO figurine of Lex Luthor as Superman. Battle Cats by Japanese developers PONOS. New tee shirt designs by Xmashed Gear. BattleSky Brigade Tap Tap by Singaporean studio BattleBrew. A few Tabletop games.
Another booth to check out would be MyRepublic. These guys are going to be revealing something soon about esports and you can get to play Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4. Pretty cool.
Speaking of esports, there is a much bigger SEA Major event this year. There will be about 200 international players from 24 countries coming in to compete in SEA Major 2018. Plus big names such as Daigo, Takukana, Umehara and our very own Xian!
There is also love for those into board games as well. At the media conference, we saw some titles such as Down Force, The Big Score, Abandon Planet and a few more and they looked really fun to play. So at GameStart, the tabletop games section is going to be pretty massive.
